By the time we arrived the sea had retreated. There is a shallow sandy channel created by a small spring running in SW direction on the land side of the largest mangrove just north of the foot of the big sandhills. For maximum water, come in from the same direction and aim for the mangrove, unless you prefer to anchor your boat and wait. After arriving at Moreton Island in the past, I am usually best left alone with an opened tin of condensed
milk. Today's trip was a breeze, by the time the other laden boats had been hauled up I had the tent up, bed made, and set up the table.
We chose a campsite north of the spear pump with ready access to the beach. It must have been very dry on the island as a hive of bees had taken up residence in the pump. Robyn's father had kept bees and she was not at all perturbed by the prospect of pumping water and bees. It took a bit of fishing to get the blighters out of the solar shower. A bee keeper later told us that a drop of phenol in the vicinity of the pump handle would drive the hive out.
