Sea grass slopped onto the foreshore as the breakwater alongside Wynnum Creek just nosed above the incoming tide. It was a dull New Years day, a bit like my head after three Coopers.
We headed for the mangroves at the southern end of Green. The NE had a fair share of E making it seem like the longest trip to Green on record. The full tide granted us access to the calm waters of the SW corner. Prowling amongst the mangroves we were progressively defeated by dense shrubbery. A selection of mangrove whelks rattled off the branches and hitched a ride to their new home.
Rounding the eastern side delivered a mini surf landing with the added interest of mangroves. Here we parked up for morning tea and a dousing from one of the several rain squalls that dogged the day.
It was then a beam sea and an easy sail to St Helena for lunch under the shelter during which the wind seemed to cark it before swinging around to a NW. The bay was quiet, only a few yachts and smaller cruisers out and about. The swell and the wind made for
a cruisey sail back. The conditions suited the design of the Pacific Action so much so that someone's paddle did not tip the water.
The night paddle to Coochie sounded like magic, but for now 18Km was quite enough for this little duck with a penchant for Coopers. Here's to a Happy New Year and a promising start for a return to the water.
