Brian was right when he said it would be a great day on the water. Light winds and clear skies accompanied 12 kayakers on a casual paddle around Macleay Island. The number of Mirages would have made Nev a happy man and does not bode well for genetic
diversity.
Leaving Point O'Halloran the group headed around the southern side of Coochie and made straight for Potts coming across an occasional loggerhead along the way. A gel coat friendly arrival near the the top of the tide was celebrated with a piece of Carol's delicious hummingbird cake.
The plan was to make for Lucas Passage while there was water but no
one seemed to be heading that way. After 100% reassurance from Graham two doubting Thomases took his word and followed his directions despite the technology aided group heading elsewhere. Turns out they were following Tom's way points - good on you Tom - this kept them right out until they reached the appropriate
sign (I mean what else would you expect) and only then did they make a right turn while Brian, Rex and the other Graeme continued on around the eastern side of Lamb.
It was not long before we had regrouped for lunch on Karragarra and listened to Graeme's impressions of Kazakhstan. Some people go to fascinating places. Back out on the water a light wind appeared and the sails went up, but there was little huff in it. Carol and Graeme had an up close an personal with a dugong which quickly made itself scarce.
Pulling into the soft sand back at Point O'Halloran brought to a close yet another classic Queensland winters day on the water.
