Paradise Point to The Bedroom
Compared with the last entry, this trip to Moreton Island was a leisurely jaunt. Starting from Paradise Point the trip to Tangalooma was done over a week with an extended sojourn at The Big Sandhills. Njord well and truly flummoxed the Met who
struggled to anticipate the idyllic conditions before the passage of a cold front heralded a firm SE blow.
Five kayaks stuffed to the brim were lugged down to the waters edge. Running through a sand hole was the last straw for a weary buckle which snapped, collapsed the wheels and landed the Raider on her belly. Some quick mods were needed to keep the wheels in use. With all the boats afloat we headed around the southern end of Ephraim Island. Eagle and sting rays were displaced in very
shallow water where we were only a centimetre or two off a walk to the channel.
It was a dull still grey morning with little boat traffic around. Morning tea was had on the beach just north of Couran Cove where a wallaby had morphed into a float and rope then back into a wallaby as it sat on the very end of a sand bank. It took as much notice of us as a passing jet skier. Making easy passage on an
outgoing tide it was onto The Bedroom for a reverse lug to the favoured area under the she oaks. With the tables set, tarp strung and tents ready it was time to head over to the surf side where the conditions suggested that this would indeed have been a great day to circumnavigate South Straddie. Some fun was had
catching waves which gave us each a decent tumble and nose rubbing in the sand. On the last wave something large brushed over my leg and lower back and it was much to my relief to find out it was only Colin and not something else chasing the fish in
the surf.
