Sunken Reef Bay to Zoe Bay Heading off in the morning my kayak needed no encouragement, leaving without me on a larger wash, the same way Ray's boat had done earlier. These Raiders, they just can't help themselves - when there are places to see they will head off, with or without you. The timing of this trip was perfect. We were blessed by the
weather gods with extraordinary conditions. Today we headed around Hillock Point. The clapotis created a mere gentle rocking. The conditions were so quiet you could have put your arm out to hold your distance from the granite precipice. Stan and I hugged the coastline taking small passages between rocky outcrops,
although Stan's tolerance for a close shave was greater than mine. We were lead passed splendid granite forms, sheered vegetation on exposed ridges, granite boulder bays, pandanus
groves, hidden coves and an occasional small turtle.
This day we were wandering around to Zoe Bay. We planned to spend two nights here so the pace dropped to less than dawdling, more like drifting. We slid into another secluded beach for morning tea just north of Hillock Point. The bay had a tiny creek but the water was subterranean. There must have been plenty of rain that season as the water was running across rock faces.
Onto Zoe Bay and cautiously up the southern creek where I did the herd thing and went for the middle of the pack. Once the kayaks were hauled up and tied up to the croc warning sign we made our next home. A few bushwalkers had also set up tent. They wandered through and squealed at the sight of a chair and other such
depraved and truly heinous creature comforts. Long rot the Macpac. Then it was onto the creek water collection point, which according to Ray was 200m up the track. Something you need to remember about Ray is that he is a bushwalker and I reckon
bushwalkers have a warped (ie masochistic) sense of distance. Mark had long since disappeared to gather water for the solar shower never to be seen again.
