The next morning the SE was out and about. We planned to go
direct to Urangan with the last of the incoming tide given that
it would be wind against tide. With HT at 11:40 we were on the
water by 08:30 and quickly making 10Kph with the flooding tide.
Close into shore it was calm, however, once out of the shelter of
Moon Point the water became sloppy and confused. This eventually
settled into a predominantly beam to front quarter swell. The
wind was constant and brisk so up went the sails and we were off.
An embarrassingly huge private launch turned out to be the
vehicular barge slowly making its way from Kingfisher Bay. For a
while there none of us could see it, yet we could all hear it
coming up behind. Eventually we veered off course to make sure we
did not remain in its line of sight. Just off the jetty the chop
became more confused as we passed over the sandbar, the change
was quite a surprise and sharpened our wits before cruising into
the beach. By then the horses were out and about and we had made
the crossing in 2.5 hours. Our window of opportunity heralded by
the sea mist had come to a windy close with the conditions
playing out the forecast for a strengthening SE of up to 25Kn.
