    Call of the Inner Patrick

The word was out. It may be there, so we went in search. We thought might bump into It at the Bryden Bar just south of Coochie. The last time we shared a seat was at 4:30am on Anzac Day. Pat declared “according to the map on my GPS we are crossing a bar”. Next we were all firmly seated, on the bar that was. Today we were blown into our seats as the westerly continued to fill the sails. A few pole punts and we were on a beeline for Blaksleys.

The steady westerly made an easy sail but there wasn’t much of a ride on the swell. A directional radio call brought Brian into the conversation. They were ashore at Potts and had opted to head south for Karragarra. They had Peter with them, so maybe they already found It. Potts is not the prettiest place on the low, so we remained on track for Blaksleys.

Blaksleys was host to a couple of campsites belonging to the powered fraternity. Several magnificent yachts drifted past, including a ketch flying four sails trimmed with black sacrificial cloth. The bay wore the sunlight like a shoal of diamonds. A pod of four dolphins frolicked in the gutter only 50m from the shoreline. After an early lunch in the lee of a large scribbly gum it was time to heed the sighing cassurinas and return to the search.

We enjoyed the antics of the dolphins for 20 minutes, especially the little fellow who at times leapt clear of the surface. Huey agreed with the BOM marine model, today the search would be in vain. The wind settled into a disappointment and the swell oozed into a slick. Not much inner Patrick around here. We plodded our way to the northern side of Coochie for a comfort stop. A young boy aged around 9 had been watching us from the beach. He steadied the snout of my kayak as I pulled ashore then hauled her up the beach. He came back with a handful of seeds and gave them to Mark so he could cast them as we paddled around the island. Nice kid with a relaxed family.

We got home to a post from Damiano, had he found It on Peel ? We will keep searching, maybe next trip …
